Representing Rhode Island: Addy Douglas, Laura Parziale and Kibbe Reilly

Written by Paul Kenyon:

Douglas, 16, a junior at The Prout School, swept through the Amateur earlier this month at Rhode Island Country Country Club. She also was an All-Stater last spring at Prout.

Reilly has represented Rhode Island several times previously in the event. Parziale, who moved to Rhode Island five years ago after playing in Massachusetts and North Carolina earlier, was the RIGA's Women's Player of the Year last year.

The State Team event brings together three players from each state as well as Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. The event will be held Sept. 26-28 at The Sunset Course at The Club at Las Campanas in Santa Fe. The top two scores from each team each day determine the team total. Because college players are competing while the event takes place, collegians cannot take part. However, high school aged players not only are eligible but make up a sizeable part of the field.

The event next month will be the last. The USGA has announced it is dropping both the Women's and Men's team events, in part at least because it will be adding a new national championship, the Women's Senior Open, beginning next year.
