Handicapping

Computerized Handicapping

The RIGA provides accurate and timely handicap indexes for approximately 10,000 golfers through the USGA’s Golf Handicap and Information Network (GHIN).  The GHIN system is the world’s largest, linking almost 2 million golfers and over 9000 clubs nationwide.

Scores are submitted by club members to the GHIN Service.  Handicaps and indexes are calculated by the USGA and distributed to RIGA member clubs every two weeks during the golf season.  The RIGA supplies the GHIN software to the member clubs. It also includes a comprehensive tournament pairing program TPP for golf tournament administration.  The RIGA also offers software installation and training as a service to the clubs.

The GHIN system creates uniformity in handicapping for all golfers.  By accessing the GHIN Web Site, golfers may check their own handicap and their last 20 scores.  They may also check the indexes of fellow golfers.

The game of golf owes its popularity in part the development of an equitable handicap system, which allows players of differing ability to play and compete against each other.

The RIGA is committed to the proper implementation and supervision of the GHIN system.  It is our most visible and widely used service.
