| 25th Stroke Play Championship |

The first round of competition has been completed at the 25th Stroke Play Championship, hosted by Potowomut GC. Leading the way is Dr. George Pirie (Valley CC), who posted two nines of 34 to card a 68 (-3), which was enough to give him a one stroke lead going into the second day of the competition. Close behind are Stephen Royer (New England CC) and Garrett Medeiros (Metacomet CC), who both carded a 34-35--69 (-2) to keep them within striking distance. The second and third rounds of competition will be contested tomorrow at Potowomut GC, beginning at 7:30 AM. Scores will be updated in real time as they come in. | AMICA Insurance Rhode Island Open |

The Amica Insurance Rhode Island Open has come to a conclusion as Jim Renner (Plainville, MA) captured the title with a 54 hole score of 199 (-8). Renner shot a 71 (+2) in his afternoon round to edge out two time champion Kirk Hanefeld (Acton, MA) and Troy Pare (Wannamoisett CC) by three strokes.
The low amateur of the tournament was Garrett Medeiros (Metacomet CC), who finished with a 54 hole total of 203 (-4) placing him in a tie for fourth place.

| New England Amateur Championship |
 |
Congratulations to Matt Broome (RICC) the 2008 New England Amateur Championship. After tough weather conditions the field entire field completed 36 holes. With severe weather in the area the golf course became unplayable and the championship was concluded as a 36 hole event for the second year in a row. RI Amateur Champion David McAndrew (RICC) finished tied for second and 2006 NE Amateur Champion Brad Valois (Alpine CC) was tied for 7th.

| 108th US Amateur Sectional Qualifying |

Sectional qualifying for the 108th U.S. Amateur Championship at Wannamoisett CC has been completed. Leading the way to Pinehurst, NC were Benjamin Spitz (Norwell, MA) and Brad Valois (Warwick, RI), who shared the medalist title with 36 hole scores of 134 (-4). The final qaulifying spot to the championship proper was clinched by Brian Higgins (Bellingham, MA) who secured his trip to Pinehurst with a birdie on the first playoff hole of a three-way playoff. First alternate is Garett Medeiros (Rumford, RI) and the second alternate is Frank Vana Jr. (Boylston, MA).

| 15th Ed Perry Senior Four-Ball (Net Division) |
 |
Dr. Vin Cavallaro (Kirkbrae CC) and Steve Sampson (Crestwood CC) birdied the first playoff hole to capture the 15th Ed Perry Senior Four-Ball Net division title. Finishing in second place was the team of Robert Hill (Montaup CC) and Vincent Dimartino (Montaup CC), who also had a 36 hole total of 127 (-15).

| 103rd Amateur Pre-Qualifying |
 |
Qualifying for the 103rd Rhode Island Amateur Championship has concluded at both sites with 86 players advancing to the Championship Proper.
At Swansea CC, the cut was 80 (+8), allowing 41 competitors to advance. Leading the field at Swansea was Matt Broome (Rhode Island CC) who shot a 67 (-5) to claim the medalist honors.
At North Kingstown GC, the cut was 78 (+8), allowing 45 competitors to advance. Leading the pack was Nick Cioe (Metacomet CC) posted a 72 (+2) early in the morning, which lasted as the low score through 29 groups earning him the medalist honors.
The 103rd Rhode Island Amateur Campionship will be held at Agawam Hunt, July 7-11 2008.

After two beautiful days of weather at Fenner Hill GC, the Father & Son Championship has been concluded.
In the Senior Division, Tom and Bobby Acciardo (Swansea CC) won the gross division with a score of 68 (-4). The net champions were Ken Ferrara Sr. and Ken Ferrara Jr. (Triggs Memorial GC), who carded a 61 (-11) net total.
In the Junior Division, Gary and Michael Delude (Pawtucket CC) won the gross division with a score of 73 (+1). The net champions were Curt and Eric D'Aguanno (Quidnessett CC), who carded a 61 (-11) net score.

| 2008 RI Public Links Championship |

David Sampson (Swansea CC) continued his superb play, following up on his score from yesterday with a 66 (-5) at Cranston CC. A two day total of 135 (-8) gave him a nine stroke advantage over Robert Ritchie (New England CC), leading him to his first Public Links title.
The winner of the men's net division was Anthony Scarcella (Triggs Memorial GC). Along with winning the net title, Scarcella carded a hole-in-one on the 8th hole of Cranston CC.
In the womens division, the gross champion was Geri Lisa (Triggs Memorial GC). The women's net champion was Syneth Buor (Triggs Memorial GC).

| 2008 Weekly Invitational Program |

One change to the Weekly Invitational program is that cart fees will now be included in the entry. This will make for an easier transition from the parking lot to the first tee. Another change will be that a player must play in 3 of the 5 courses within their package to qualify for the end of the year Net Championship. The RIGA will also post all scores through the GHIN Handicap Program after each event. These scores will be posted as NON-"T"ournament scores.

| 59th Four-Ball Championship |

Bill Forcier (Valley CC) and Patrick O'Neill (Pawtucket CC) carded a second round score of 66 (-4) for a two round total of 135 (-7) to win the 59th Four-Ball Championship at New England CC. On the front nine, Forcier carded four birdies which were complemented by three additional birdies from O'Neill on the back nine. Their lone blip of the day was on the 18th hole, but their score held as leaders in the clubhouse through the last five groups. Finishing in second place for the second year in a row was the team of Eugene Disarro (Metacomet CC) and Jason Pannone (Potowomut GC). After besting the field by three strokes coming into day two, Disarro and Pannone were unable to maintain their lead, finishing at Even Par for the day with a 136 (-6) two round total.

| John P. Burke Net Division |

The weather improved along with the scoring for the second day of the John P. Burke Memorial Championship. Arthur Fiorenzano (Carnegie Abbey Club) was under par for the second day in a row to capture the title, with a two round total of 137 (-5). Behind Fiorenzano, Conn Kelley (Fenner Hill GC) and Charles Miga (Jamestown GC) tied for second place with a two round total of 141 (-1).

| John P. Burke Gross Division |

Under two days of excellent weather, Charlie Blanchard (Wannamoisett CC) has won the John P. Burke Memorial Tournament, making himself a four time champion of the event. Blanchard shot a second round score of 75 (+3) to give him a 36 hole total of 144 (+2). Jon Costa III (Swansea CC) shot a 75 (+3) today with a birdie on the 18th hole to grab sole posession of second place over Shane Rice (Valley CC) with a 36 hole total of 148 (+6). Rice was the only player to shoot under par today, carding a 70 (-2) at Newport CC for a 36 hole total of 149 (+7)
