Carts are now mandatory at Carnegie Abbey. If you registered before Friday, February 15 please mail in a check or call the RIGA office with a credit card. The cart fee is $25, which includes range balls, and must be paid by May 1. |

| 108th US Open - Local Qualifying |
|
Local qualifying for the 108th U.S. Open at Torrey Pines has been concluded at Shelter Harbor GC. Leading the pack was Jason Parajeckas (Woburn, MA) who won the medalist honors by carding a 69 (-2). Closely behind was Jeff Dantas (Seekonk, MA) who shot a 70 (-1). Ed Kirby (Wakefield, RI) finished in third after shooting a 71 (E), which stood ground throughout the day. All three will advance to sectional qualifying on June 2.

| 2008 Weekly Invitational Program |
|
One change to the Weekly Invitational program is that cart fees will now be included in the entry. This will make for an easier transition from the parking lot to the first tee. Another change will be that a player must play in 3 of the 5 courses within their package to qualify for the end of the year Net Championship. The RIGA will also post all scores through the GHIN Handicap Program after each event. These scores will be posted as NON-"T"ournament scores.

Under two days of excellent weather, Charlie Blanchard (Wannamoisett CC) has won the John P. Burke Memorial Tournament, making himself a four time champion of the event. Blanchard shot a second round score of 75 (+3) to give him a 36 hole total of 144 (+2). Jon Costa III (Swansea CC) shot a 75 (+3) today with a birdie on the 18th hole to grab sole posession of second place over Shane Rice (Valley CC) with a 36 hole total of 148 (+6). Rice was the only player to shoot under par today, carding a 70 (-2) at Newport CC for a 36 hole total of 149 (+7)

| 2008 GHIN Handicap Program |
|
The 2008 Handicap revision schedule has changed from previous years. Starting January 1 the RIGA will now allow off-season score posting for rounds played at in-season courses. (e.g. Florida courses) All scores will either be posted on GHIN.com or at the course a member plays. During the off-season a player's handicap index will be calculated at the beginning of each month. The ability to post scores in the New England area will begin on April 1 and will be extended until November 12.

**2008 RIGA Membership Renewal/Applications will be mailed through many RIGA members clubs. Members may also print a hard copy through web site and mail in.
**RI resident non-affiliated players: The State Amateur pre-qualifying round has been eliminated. Non-affiliated players may register online (or download and mail hard copy) to play at one of the two regular pre-qualifying sites.

| 2008 Schedules |
|
The 2008 Championship and Weekly Invitational schedules are posted. Registration for the major tournaments will begin on Wednesday, January 30. Registration for the Weekly Invitational packeages will be included in the RIGA winter newsletter and will take place in late February.
